AlionLive - Spring in Madeira - Day 7 - Finally we go on!

Yes, there was a long pause since day 6 and I'm kinda sorry, and the reasons are not important ;) Welcome back, myself! I have even waited with this blog entry until the two parts of the day 7 were done, so I can show you something real here in the blog, and not just one part. That would be inappropriate after the long wait.

Plot
On the 7th day of the Lord and the Lady (Malina) rested. Somehow we needed a quiet day again and we had anyway long ago (already in 2011) planned to visit the fort "Fortaleza de São João Baptista do Pico" and the artist quarter in the Zona Velha (Old Town) more in detail. It proved to be clever to split the video material into two parts because it had a total of almost hour of playtime, which has proven to be unwanted by the audience. Most viewers seem to like their videos around half an hour in length, or even better 20 minutes. In addition, the thematic separation yielded itself. The first part shows the ascent to and the visiting of the fortress, the second shows the visit to the artist quarter. Both topics each took about 50% of the video material, so it was all just reasonable. Now in detail about the two parts:

The Fortress (Die Festung)
We initially had no idea if a visit to the fortress was possible at all. The ascent to the selfsame was more complicated than expected. We hiked around the fortress mountain on the west side ... where unfortunately is no entrance to the fortress. So we hiked on the northwestern slope up to find, shortly before the fortress, a nice cafe (highly recommended) where we refreshed ourselves with an exquisite Poncha. Then we walked around the fortress wall, first in the wrong direction (west) and found that there was no direct access from the sea side. So we walked all around the fortress and at the southeast corner, well hidden in the upper old town, there was the entrance. We visited the fortress really detailed. I do not want to reveal more here ;).

ART! (KUNST!)
After our adventure in the fortress we went quickly south east, downhill, on our way to the lower old town, called Zona Velha. There is the art district that is famous for, that there the front doors of the houses art painted by artists. These doors we filmed extensively and truly Malina's photography supported my video work in an excellent way. I was frankly quite surprised about the ammount of material during editing. We visited an art gallery, and here we also filmed and photographed alot. Then "we collected a few forgotten doors" and then decided to end that day in the bar "Tapas do Anibal" with a high quality Poncha at an unbeatable low price. After that we visited, since we were allready drinking, a bar near the church of "Santa Maria", the "Barreirinha Bar Café". Also, this is recommended, despite its slightly high prices, because for the quality of the drinks the prices are more than fair. Ok, and so this day also came to an end.

Day 8
Yes, of course I'll let you know what will happen on day 8: It is also a "two-parts day". Part one shows a wonderful and, one can safely say spectacular, hike with first class weather, on the eastern tip of the island. Viewers of the 2012 series "Return 2 Madeira" may remember: Back then the weather was not so good and I hiked in sandals ... The second part will please the friends of the bus ride videos, of which there are more than I thought. My second most popular video is a bus ride video. And between this and Day 8 Part 2 there is a commonality: It's the same route. only this time we ride back in the evening to Funchal while the video from 2012 shows a midday drive from Funchal to the "Ponta de São Lourenço". Ok, now that was but enough text. It goes on!

Spring in Madeira Day 6 - Santana, Queimadas, Pico das Pedras!

The tourism side of Santana ;)
Also on this blog I must apologize for the slight delay. Not only that nearly a month passed between the last and the current video. This blog entry also comes five days after uploading the video. I can not stress enough how much of an advantage it is to like the AlionLive Facebook page or follow me on Twitter. The reason for the current delay is simple: Two albums are currently rapidly approaching completion and there is plenty to do. It is therefore to be feared that in the near future the AlionLive project will not make much progress for some time. But this will also end one day again ;).
Yeah, exactly!
For the video: Well rested from our quiet day in Funchal we wanted to do something bigger and decided to take an early morning bus to Santana at the north coast. From there we hiked towards Queimadas. This place is familiar to me from many, many of my Facebook friends photos and was high on the list of places to be visited. We did not expect the rather long and somewhat unspectacular ascent to Queimadas. It has also been reported by many, that there would be no motorable road to Queimadas, which turned out to be absolute nonsense. So notice: No matter what they tell you on the internet: You can drive by car to Queimadas and the road is very well developed. However, we completed the 800-900 meter ascent on foot of course. Once there, we were somewhat exhausted. After a rest with good cheese bread and Coral Tonica were fit again soon.
Yay! Now I have also some photos of Queimadas! :)
We had to abandon the original plan, to hike on to the Caldeirao Verde and Caldeirao do Inferno, due to the advanced time of day. So we decided to hike further to the Pico das Pedras. After a short rest in a cozy cafe on the Pico das Pedras we hiked towards Faial.
On the Pico das Pedras
Actually, we were making good time, but then we walked around a mountain on the wrong side, which dissuaded us far from the path. Only by a lucky chance, we caught the last bus to Funchal.
Breathtaking vista on Faial, Porto da Cruz, the eagle Rock and more
The soundtrack consists once again from pre-release versions of songs that are destined for the soon to be released album "Madeira" by Cimelium. By the way: Only 2 songs to go, then the album is complete :). Among the featured songs appropriately also is the latest addition "Queimadas". The soundtrack in detail:

00:00 Santana
05:00 Poiso
09:36 Queimadas
14:38 Santo da Serra
19:33 Câmara de Lobos
24:19 Rabacal
29:23 Parque do Lido 6:30 am
And now have fun with the video!

AlionLive - Spring in Madeira - Chillax in Funchal

The video was actually uploaded two days ago, but personal issues caused the delay of this blog. On the fifth day of the trip we needed, due to the chaotic ends of the previous two days, really a day off and spent it in Funchal. Here we were anything but idle and therefore in this video there's a lot to see. We started at the Parque de Santa Catarina, where the spring time in Madeira was clearly visible, because of the overwhelming variety of beautiful flowers.

Flowers at the Parque de Santa Catarina
But there was not much shade and the sun burnt down with full force. So a shadier place was really a better choice. This we found at the Jardim Municipal. There also everything was in full bloom. We saw a sausage tree and so we learned where the sausages come from ;).

Unripe green saussauges on an saussage tree ;)
In front of the Ritz, just across the Avenida Arriaga from the Jardim Municipal, played a very good band whose sounds I of course do not withhold from you in the video.
Great sounds in front of the Ritz
After a pleasant cooling stay we decided to explore the old town of Funchal further. After a short time we arrived the Madeira winery Blandy, where we stayed only briefly, because the tasting costs money and the prices for this were so high that we decided to skip the wine tasting ;).

Very expensive wine tasting here :D
Now we were really ready for for an icecold Coral Tonica and also we wanted to provide us with fresh fruits. Both, and also more than enough cooling shade, we found at the world famous market hall of Funchal, the Mercado dos Lavradores.

Overwhelming variety of fruits, vegetables and everything at the Mercado dos Lavradores
After extensive fruit purchasing and procurement of a cooled sixpack of Coral Tonica we discovered a multimedia information board, with which we had some fun. But then we got toknow that the market hall was closing soon. The day was still young and we had now recovered well. Therefore we were not in the mood to just end the day yet and made our way towards Lido. Here we visited a cocktail bar that we remembered from 2011 for excellent cocktails at a low price.

No longer recommended
But the prices were raised quite a lot and the Poncha, which we were served, consisted of 1/3 ice cubes. Ice cubes in a Poncha are in my opinion at all wrong. So we did no further experiments and went on our way into the direction of Camara de Lobos. On the way there we had a very cute encounter.

CUTE ALERT !!!
Our plan now was to hike to the Doca do Cavacas, through the tunnel and to the Praia Formosa, because we remembered from 2011, that you get an excellent Poncha at the beach bar there. We unfortunately found out that the tunnel was closed for renovations. So I completed my only and late "speech" to the audience, and we went, as it was quite late and dark, on the way back to Funchal. On the way we then saw a very welcoming restaurant that had a large sign with the words "Poncha Bar"

FINALLY: A real Poncha!
Strengthened by an excellent Poncha, we now made our way back to the apartment house and ended the day. So, and now you want for sure to watch the video). Here it is! Have fun!

Spring in Madeira - Day 4 - A short Levada hike

This video is probably one of the shortest of the series. The reason for this was that we went very late to Camacha and the Paradise Valley and somehow I also didn't film very much on that day. Our hike took us along the Levada dos Tornos, which we then left to head north towards the Parque Ecologico do Funchal. On our way, we had an extensive rest at the Abrigo do Pastor, I already visited on day 10 of my trip in 2012. However, I did not notice back then that the Abrigo do Pastor has an impressive restaurant with an unique ambience. After that it was rather late and we did our best to catch the last bus at the Parque Ecologico do Funchal. That did not work at all and so we hiked in complete darkness in the direction of Monte. We were lucky, because on the route a very nice person stopped his car and offered us to drive us to the nearest bus stop, from which a bus was still going. You see again: The people of Madeira are just fantastic. But the footage of this video shows only the part until shortly after our stay at the Abrigo do Pastor. This is due to the rapidly falling darkness and the fact that we were in a hurry to catch that bus.

The soundtrack this time is entirely from the album "Mesopotamia" by the Cimelium project. The soundtrack in detail:

This album is available on iTunes, Amazon, Emusic, Routenote and Spotify. This link takes you to a page, where you find all the links to the album in the shops. And now have fun with this pretty short video, which still offers some beautiful views. The next video will be much longer.

Bike ride to the Lueneburg Heath - Rolling home!

Yepp, it's done: The final part of this short, but long on the other hand, series is finally on Youtube! This time we ride from Asendorf, in the far north of the Lüneburg Heath, across the imposing Elbbrücken back to my home in the north-east of Hamburg. All in one day. A good amount of beer flows and my language skills, presumably for exhaustion reasons, reach an all time low. The soundtrack is completely from the alionsonny album "Electronic Spacerock".

The soundtrack in detail:
  •      00:00 - Sunrise
  •      05:18 - Days of our years
  •      10:00 - Flowers
  •      15:23 - Forest
  •      21:00 - Sunbeams
The route
The total distance traveled was on this day 54 km / 33.6 miles:

And now once again the total distance. This amounted to a total of 206 km / 128 miles:

And just for fun here is also again the height profile, which is indeed in no way comparable with Madeira, but anyways no one should say northern Germany is generally flat ;)

Ok, that's it! And yes: Soon I'll be on a new bike ride. Where will it go to? I will not reveal this here and now, but it will be definitely interesting. Have fun with the video!

Spring in Madeira - Day 3 - Hiking from Santo da Serra to Faial

From the intro ;)
Currently it is going blow upon blow with the videos :). Just a week ago I uploaded the last video, and here's already the new one. While we are on the subject: From time to time I am asked why I am not, like My Let's Play colleagues, able to upload at least one video a day. This is simply impossible, because the editing of the video takes as long as it does. I have, for example, never seen a Let's Play with hundreds of cuts, transitions, and certainly none with subtitles. Ok, so this should be clarified ;).

The latest video, as the title suggests, is part of the series about our this year's trip to Madeira. In this third part the regular viewers will once again see many familiar places. Somewhat late we took a bus to Santo da Serra, where I was already on day 8 of the 2012 series. Initially we planned to hike the Levada do Furado to Ribeiro Frio. Fortunately we met two nice hikers who told us that this Levada is still closed. How long is that supposed to take? I mean: It is closed since early 2013 already. The information given by the nice hikers saved us hiking half the Levada and then have to hike back. But now we were absolutely clueless about where we should hike to. So we decided to hike north and to see where we end up. So we hiked through valleys and mountains in almost uncomfortably burning sun to Portela. There we rested a while and then made our way towards Faial via Referta. Those who have seen the 2012 series, will remember this route from the video of day 12. However, we missed a turnoff somewhere near Referta, which should lead us to the path of my 2012 hike. Due to extensive breaks and filming, we were already very late and the missed turnoff caused that we actually went to Porto da Cruz. There we found out that at least from there no buses were going anymore. So we went on a forced march to Faial, where we arrived after 8 pm. At this time really no buses are going to Funchal from there anymore. So we decided, after some daring plan games, to burden our small travel fund with the cost of a taxi ride to Funchal. Not nice, but still better than having to spend a night on the north side of the island or to do a nightly hike across the island ;).

The route
The soundtrack also this time consists not only from the works of the house of alionmind, but there are again two guest musicians presented. This time it is DecibelAlex and Anthony Charretier, two nice fellow musicians whom I met on Facebook. At this point I would like to say thanks for providing their wonderful pieces of music. The rest of the soundtrack consists of 3 tracks from the recently released alionsonny album "Continuity". But first I want to introduce the guest musicians properly:

Bike Ride Lüneburg Heath in 2013 - Part 3 - Through the heart of the heath!

The Totengrund
Yes, currently the videos come quite quickly. I've told you, that I want to finish this short series soon. And that's why it is here already: The third and penultimate part of the bike ride through the Lüneburg Heath in 2013. It begins with a short and plenty tired morning speech at my campsite near Steinbeck/Luhe. After that, I'm on my way via a village with the beautiful name Hörpel, through a beautiful heathland with the equally beautiful name Totengrund, to the Wilseder Berg. So the route goes, as the title says, really through the heart of the Lüneburg Heath. From the Wilseder Berg I get slowly on my way home and ride north during the remaining 3 hours of daylight. From this last part of the day however, there is not much to see because the lighting situation was too bad, and I also was in a hurry to find a way to provide me with urgently needed beverages. The day ends in a beautiful quiet valley near Asendorf. The route this time was, despite of the extensive film breaks, still 40.7 km long and was in the heath area also usually far from easy to ride on a bike. In particular, the routes in the area Totengrund and Wilseder Berg were actually only to manage by pushing the bike.

The Route
The soundtrack consists this time of a very colorful mix. It starts danceable, with two pre-release versions by Willma Poppen. Among them is the latest track, destined for the "Willma im Wunderland" album, "Nachtwanderer". Then it gets a bit more quiet, adequately for the images of nature. And here happens something completely new on AlionLive: From now on I am not only introducing my own music in the videos, but also the works of talented musicians whose music I like. This time I present to you the following pieces of music:

"My Little Sunshine" by Michael Klatte
"Forgotten Tale" by WAHEB

I really recommend you to check out the other works of these artists. You can do this on Michael's Soundcloud page and also on the one of WAHEB. WAHEB also has a little video channel on Youtube, which still needs some subscribers and absolutely deserves them ;). The soundtrack ends with two pre-release versions by Cimelium, which are destined for the "Madeira" album and will be familiar to the regular viewers already.

The soundtrack in detail:
00:00 - Willma Poppen - Nachtwanderer
05:05 - Willma Poppen - RaumZeit
08:24 - Michael Klatte - My Little Sunshine
09:57 - WAHEB - Forgotten Tale
14:34 - Cimelium - Cais do Sardinha
19:28 - Cimelium - Parque do Lido 6:30 am

Well, and that's it already. Next comes a part of the "Spring in Madeira" series. And now, have fun with the video!

AlionLive - Spring in Madeira - The second part is here!

And on we go with the second part of the current series about our trip to Madeira. We start slow and easy in this part, but we already start with the hiking. The route will however be familiar to those, who have followed the series from 2012. We hike from the Parque Ecologico do Funchal up the plateau north of Funchal and then to Poiso. Afterwards, we still hiked further, but unfortunately no video material of this exists. Why the repetition? In fact I hiked that route one time alone and once again together with Beatrice in 2012. The repetition has two reasons:
  1. 1 We were pretty exhausted still from the early arrival the day before and wanted to start things slowly. Therefore, a not too strenuous route was chosen, which I knew well already.
  2. 2 Malina of cause had viewed the videos of 2012 and of course wanted to see the views of Funchal and especially the plateau herself.
In addition, one and the same place on Madeira looks completely different in different seasons and in fact it was a totally different feeling to walk this route in spring. Initially, it even looked as if we would hike this route this time in bright sunshine. But only until the wind pushed some cloud banks against the mountainside. It did not come to a weather apocalypso like 2012, when I had to leave the plateau quite hastily, but it was quite foggy.
This part of the series is also, with a little over 22 minutes, quite short. After the long winter break, I had first to get myself rolling again. Also, I had already told you beforehand that I film less when I have company than when I'm traveling alone. However, I believe that this video will be quite entertaining. Have fun!

The bike ride to the Lüneburg Heath (2013 ) finally goes on!

Oldendorfer Totenstatt
After a very long break, we finally continue with this series, which is about my bike ride in August 2013 to Lüneburg and the Lüneburg Heath. In October last year, I decided in favor of the work on the current alionsonny album "Continuity" and especially the completion of the "AlionLive - Return 2 Madeira" video series to put this video project on hold. The situation regarding to currently pending projects is not really better, but rather worse. Firstly, the completions of total 2 music albums is in progress, firstly, "Madeira" by Cimelium, and " Willma im Wunderland" by Willma Poppen. And also I recently started a new Madeira video series. But be that as it may, I think it is time to finish this bike ride series ... before I go on the next bike ride : D.

Plot
This second part of the series describes the second real day of the tour. After I am rudely woken up after a restful night in a forest near Ochtmissen in the morning, I extensively visit the Old Town of Lüneburg, the Kalkberg and then make my way into the Lüneburg Heath. After already expecting on that day to not see any real heath, in the end I arrive at a large cemetery from the Stone Age , the Oldendorfer Totenstatt. Then I ride on for a while, to finally find a nice campground, close Steinbeck (Luhe ). Of this you will see nothing again, due to rapid nightfall. On that day I rode a total of just 39 kilometers, but due to the extensive filming in Lüneburg and at the Totenstatt this is not really something to wonder about. For the interested, here's the route. Once this series is finalized, I will post a KML for those who want to do this tour themselves, or simply want to only visit certain locations.

The Route

AlionLive - Frühling auf Madeira: The first part is here!

Yes, here we go: Here is the new Madeira video series. This is the introductory part with the traditional opening speech. After that, you will see about 15 minutes of video and photo material from the first small walk through Funchal in bright sunshine.

Actually this video should have been available on the 3rd birthday of the AlionLive video channel on Youtube. This has almost happened, but was contradicted by various difficulties. Actually I also wanted to speak the introduction this time not in front of my badly lighted greenscreen, but somewhere outside. But this was contradicted by the bad weather during the first 2 may weeks also. But, never mind: The start has now been made.

The soundtrack this time is completely from the current alionsonny album "Continuity". NOTE: In this video for the first time you hear only finished release versions, so this is what you get if you buy this album.

The soundtrack in detail:
  • 00:00 - A Sunny Day
  • 04:47 - The Storm
  • 09:32 - Pirates of Madeira
  • 14:27 - Green Hills
  • 19:03 - Ganja in the jar
  • 24:03 - Flight of the Butterfly
If you now want to buy this album, Here's where you can do so:

AlionLive Frühling auf Madeira: A new video series is coming... soon!

The day before yesterday Malina and I returned from Madeira, after two weeks of adventure, fun and sunshine. Yes , the weather this time was really fantastic, sometimes so much that it was uncomfortable ;). We also established many new contacts and made new friends, I finally met some of my Facebook friends from the island in person and met old friends. Thank you at this point, for the wonderful time that we spent with you.

Of course we filmed and photographed a lot. Thus in the new video series, like in the one from 2011, still photos will be included, which Malina has taken. Altogether, I filmed 11 hours and 27 minutes of raw video footage and Malina took 1393 photos. In this respect, the raw footage is slightly less than in 2012 but much more than in 2011. But the video series will be much longer than 2012 still, because of the use of the photos, even if I cut the video material excessively.

When does it all start? I plan to upload the first episode on the 3 year anniversary of the AlionLive video channel on May 13. 2014. This is already scarce enough, because I want to speak a little introduction into the camera as always, create a nice intro and the material from the first day must be edited also. To give you something on what you can look forward, I now give you a glimpse of the series by telling you briefly what happened on each day of the adventure:

April 17. 2014
The journey began at 3:30 clock in the morning with the trip to the Hamburg Airport, as our flight was going already at 6:00. At about 11 am we arrived in Funchal and surprisingly felt not tired. So we walked through Funchal in fantastic weather until late at night and decided to end the day with a good meal at the restaurant "O Arco".
Funchal welcomed us with sunny weather

Spring in Madeira is much more "flowerful" than late fall ;)
 April 18. 2014
On this day I wanted to take Malina on a hike, which I had already done two times in 2012 on the 4th day and on the 13th with Beatrice. The trail led from the Parque Ecologico do Funchal to the plateau north of Funchal and then to Poiso. This time the weather was much better than in 2012, but due to some non-hazardous cloud banks, the wind pushed across the plateau, at least a bit of the 2012 feeling was present.
First the weather was still quite clear up there...

...but somewhat later, the good old "spooky forest" feeling was there again ;).
April 19. 2014
This was the first real long walk. In the morning we took the bus to Santo da Serra, a place that you already know from Part 8B of the 2012 series. From there we hiked through deep valleys and across high mountains in roaring heat to Portela. From there we hiked the path already known from part 12 of the the 2012 series through Referta to Faial. However, we missed a turn-off somewhere and had to take a significant detour via Porto da Cruz.
Does this look familiar to you? This is Santo da Serra in good weather ;)
Portela, this time quite crowded.
April 20. 2014
Since we started our day quite late, we decided to do a relatively short hike, again on the trails of the 2012 trip. We drove to the Vale Paraiso near Camacha and hiked, with a stop at the Abrigo do Pastor to the Parque Ecologico do Funchal. This route can be viewed also in the 3 parts of day 10 in the 2012 series. Again, the weather was not to be compared with it's 2012 equivalent and this time the route was intended. Due to the late start we missed the last bus from the Parque Ecologico do Funchal and hiked on to the Terreiro da Luta. In fact we actually intended to hike further at least to Monte in the dark. This was, however, spared us by a nice indigenous guy, who took us a big part of the route to Funchal in his car.
Guess who's this on the Levada dos Tornos ;)

Good Espetada and wine (one of our favourites) at the Abrigo do Pastor

April 21. 2014
After the considerable exertions of the previous days, we granted ourselves a day of rest in Funchal. We just strolled through the town, visited some parks, a Madeira winery and bought delicious fruits at the market hall.
A nice morning at the Parque Santa Catarina

Jungle feeling at the Parque Municipal
April 22. 2014
Well rested from the day before we went on the long bus ride to Santana and did a heavy ascent to Queimadas. Actually we planned to hike further to the Calderão Verde and then to the Caldeirão do Inferno. But at the time of our arrival at Queimadas, it was already too late for this. So we hiked on to the Pico das Pedras and from there down to Faial , where we just reached the last bus to Funchal.
Queimadas like I only knew it from photos on Facebook.

General Rundkopf in full gear on his way to the Pico das Pedras ;)
April 23. 2014
Somehow we already needed a more calm day in Funchal again, but not as calm as on the 21srt. We visited the fortress "Fortaleza de São João Baptista do Pico" extensively, from which one has a magnificent view of Funchal, and the artist quarter in the "Zona Velha", ie the old town. Here we filmed and photographed this time pretty much all of the wonderfully painted doors and visited two art galleries.
A lonely guard at the fortress.
Painted door at the Zona Velha.
April 24. 2014
Again on the trails of the journey of 2012, we went by bus to the Ponta de Sao Lourenco on that day, and hiked to the Cais do Sardinha. As in 2012, we spared ourselves the ascend up on the last mountain, also because it was a bit too late for that if we wanted to get the last bus back to Funchal. But far more footage was filmed this time than in 2012.
This may look familiar to one or the other ;)
The north coast: Spectacular as always.
April 25. 2014
A rather quiet day on which we took the bus to Ribeiro Frio and did the 4 km short hike to the Balcoes. In contrast to the pure fall of 2012 we had fantastic weather this time and a great view, which allowed us a preview of the next day trail to the water power plant. Then we hiked along the easy road towards Faial, explored the entrance to the gravel road to the hydroelectric power plant and got the bus back to Funchal at Cruzinhas.
Who can see the well-camouflaged Sonny?
No AlionLive without beer!
April 26. 2014
Probably the most eventful day with a about 11 hours continuous mega hike. We got up early and took the bus to the gravel road to the hydroelectric power plant, which we had explored the day before. Then we hiked up there, and then did a hefty ascend to the Levada do Pico Ruivo. After unexpectedly long hike along that Levada, we reached the entrance to the dark and long Pico Ruivo tunnel. The passage through that tunnel proved to be longer than expected. Since we would miss the last bus anyway, we switched to 100% no-risk-no-fun-mode, hiked to the impressive Caldeirão do Inferno, then to the Calderão Verde and after that to Queimadas. There we fortunately met a couple of hikers whom we had met already the day before and gladly accepted their offer to take us back to Funchal in their hired car
Me reporting from the Levada do Pico Ruivo

Not for the claustrophobic: This hike had vary, very many tunnels. The longest was 2.5 kilometers long and PITCH-DARK.

After that mega hike we desperately needed a day of rest and used it for an extensive Pocha-O-Rama... well... it was not only Poncha, but generally we partied merrily until late at night. The party took mainly place in Camara de Lobos. This was the day on which we made the most new contacts -> logical :).
Our first Poncha of the day. It would by far not been the last one ;)
A great place to party: Camara de Lobos!

After the festivities of the day before we were just not dead ;) but also not absolutely fit. So we decided for a reasonably short hike, but also a not too easy one. We took the bus to the entrance of the tunnel before Curral the Freiras, hiked up to the Eira do Serrado and did the, somewhat steep, descent to Curral the Freiras. We finished the day with a good meal of the probably best Espetada of the island.

On this day we were up for a longer hike again. We took the bus to Santo da Serra and got off somewhere in the middle between Camacha and Santo da Serra. We hiked south until we reached the Levada dos Tornos. Since we had a specific destination, we left the Levada near Nogueira. Here we saw our first poor people ghetto in Madeira and were almost eaten by aggressive dogs ;). Next we did the descent to Garajau where we first visited the statue of Christo Rei (we spared ourselves the last part of the  descent to this for reasons of efficiency) and I fulfilled a promise I had given in 2012: I returned to the restaurant of a good friend, whom I had met in the 2012 episode " A Chaos Day" on day 6. We ended the day with a truly royal feast.

It was by far not the longest hike, we did on this trip, but it still was quite extensive. Actually, we just wanted to pretty lazy but extensively explore and film the area around Poiso, but, due to a scheduling error on my part, we missed the bus in the morning. In order not to lose too much of the last day of the trip, we decided to take a city bus to Curral dos Romeiros. From here we hiked to the Terreiro da Luta, where we were absolutely overwhelmed by the bombastic design of the Our Lady's statue "Nossa Senhora da Paz". Then we hiked through the Parque Ecologico do Funchal to Poiso where we ended the day with some Cortados and a Poncha.
Above the clouds.
Let's sing a little song ;)

On the day of the departure to Hamburg I only filmed the airport of Funchal this time. In this respect, this part will mainly deal with the aftermath of the trip. ;) But that's still faaaar away.

And that's the end of this, now very extensive, blog entry. I 'm looking forward to edit all the video material and, during that, to relive all the memorable moments of the trip. Let's hope that it goes faster this time with the editing and that it does not take 1 1/2 years again to complete ... and if already ;).
